Iceland Roundtrip

See the highlights of Iceland with this incredible guided tour. You’ll tick off all the main sights and explore the rugged landscapes of the land of ice and fire.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Keflavík to Reykjavík Arrival in Keflavik at your own arrangement. The bus and the local tour guide, who will accompany you during your journey, are awaiting you at the airport. Over the Reykjanes peninsula, you will drive towards your hotel. We recommend a stop at the famous Blue Lagoon (at extra charge). If time allows, you are free to explore the capital of Iceland or take a three-hour sightseeing tour. During the guided tour, you’ll learn more about the northernmost capital. Amongst others, you will see the Höfði House, the old town district, and the Hallgrims Church.
  • Day 2: Reykjavík to Borgarnes You start with the Thingvellir National Park, the first highlight of the Golden Circle. Here, one of the oldest surviving parliaments in the world were founded. Furthermore, from here you can observe the continental drift of the European and American continental plates. You continue to the area of the world-famous geysers. At regular intervals you can watch how the Strokkur shoots up to a height of 20 meters. The last highlight on this tour is Gullfoss, the waterfall that colours golden at a low hanging sun. Your next stop on this tour will be Borgarnes, and if time allows, you are free to explore cozy cafes and historic old houses. Locally, Borgarnes is known for having a fantastic swimming pool.
  • Day 3: Borgarnes to the area of Akureyri This morning, we suggest a visit Reykholt, the former home of the famous poet Snorri Sturlusson. Continue your day with a visit to Grábrók, a small volcano in the north of Borgarfjörður, and the museum courtyard Glaumbær (at extra charge). Here you can clearly see how houses were built with the “peat construction” method in the past, which protected against harsh weather conditions. Afterward, you will pass through the area that is famous for breeding Icelandic horses, followed by sightseeing in Akureyri, capital of Northern Iceland. Your overnight stay today is in Húsavík or Akureyri.
  • Day 4: Explore area of Akureyri and Húsavik Húsavik is Iceland’s number one whale watching spot, with a spotting probability of 90% (whale safari bookable at an additional charge). We recommend driving around the Tjörnes peninsula to Jökulsárgljúfur National Park, where you can find Dettifoss. At a width of 100 meters, 200.000 litres of water per second rush into a 40-meters depth. If you continue following the road, you will reach Ásbyrgi, a horseshoe-shaped canyon.
  • Day 5: Húsavík / Akureyri to Egilsstadir Today, you’ll drive to Mývatn, a lake named after the swarms of midges who live there. Don’t worry, these chironomids belong to the family of non-biting midges. The lovely surroundings also keep a unique bird population. On the way to Fárskrúðsfjörður, you’ll drive along scenic mountain passes and beautiful fjords, towards the east fjords, the oldest part of Iceland’s scenery. Today, we suggest a visit to Petra’s mineral stone collection (not included). Petra collected these extraordinary stones over time during her numerous journeys and displays them in a beautiful exhibition in her garden.
  • Day 6: Egilsstadir to Höfn Today’s morning is all about Skaftafell National Park. At the foot of the Vatnajökull glacier untouched nature, numerous hiking possibilities and a spectacular waterfall are awaiting you. If time allows, we suggest an amphibian boat trip on the glacier lagoon Jökulsarlon (at extra charge). Admire the icebergs, glimmering in numerous colours and floating towards the ocean, from close range.
  • Day 7: Höfn to Hveragerdi Your tour continues on the “Ring Road”, with a spectacular view on Europe’s largest glacier, the Vatnajökull. You will arrive in the southern village of Vik, surrounded by steep cliffs on three sides and directly facing the ocean on the fourth side. You will admire wide sandy landscapes, award-winning beaches and Cape Dyrhólaey, whose so called “door hole” was formed by the Atlantic Ocean over a thousand years. Along the south coast you will visit the waterfall Skógafoss and walk behind the Seljalandsfoss.
  • Day 8: Departure Your departure transfer will bring you back to Keflavik Airport, from where you will start your journey home, carrying many beautiful new memories with you.
