Greenland Hiking Adventure

This tour will take you on a guided hiking adventure in the southern part of Greenland. You will hike on beautiful nature trails and roads made by the local people and the sheep. During the trip you will stay in guesthouses, small hotels and even a cozy camp. Explore the nature beneath the peaks, experience Norse ruins up close, visit an ice fjord and hot springs, and hike between settlements – a truly unique experience.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Narsarsuaq Fly from Copenhagen to Narsarsuaq, the main gateway for travel in South Greenland. There is a transfer waiting for you who will take you to the port. Hop on a ferry ride to Qassiarsuk. Your hiking adventure starts here with a 7km hike through rolling fields and blue lakes to the sheep farm Tasiusaq which is located on the beautiful fjord Sermilik. Accommodation and dinner at Sermilik Guesthouse.
  • Day 2: Hiking and Norse ruins Enjoy your breakfast at the guesthouse. The day starts with a hike back to Qassiarsuk where you can visit its famous Norse ruins and typical peat house of the type Inuit lived in. Afterwards a ferry will take you back to Narsarsuaq. During the crossing you marvel about the many Icebergs floating by. Another small boat ride will take you to Itilleq from where you hike for about 4km along King’s Road. Pass by green fields and sheep farms before you reach the village of Igaliku. With its colorful houses next to a milky blue fjord it is a truly memorable place. You will have accommodation and dinner at Igaliku Country Hotel
  • Day 3: Hiking Igaliku Breakfast at the hotel. Use some time to wander around the settlement and enjoy the impressive Norse ruins. During the day you can join a 17km hike to a plateau, from where there is a fantastic view of the Qooroq Icefjord. After the hike you can enjoy some resting in the hotel.
  • Day 4: Hiking Qaqortog Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel. Start the day with a boat ride to Upernaviarsuk Experimental Farm. Go for a walk here before returning to the boat and sailing a few kilometers to Hvalsey Church Ruin. This is the best-preserved Norse ruin in Greenland, located a little further into the bay. From here another boat ride takes you to Qaqortoq, the largest town of South Greenland. Check-in to the hotel and go on a tour of the town. The rest of the day is at your own leisure. Accommodation at Hotel Qaqortoq.
  • Day 5: Overnight Camp Breakfast at the hotel and step on the boat for a 4-hour ride to Nanortalik. This city is the most southern located town in Greenland and has several beautiful colonial buildings. The scenic boat ride continues into the Tasermiut Fjord. Above the waters of the fjord, there rises steep mountains and rugged coastlines. Sail further into the fjord to get close to the huge glacier, before you’re dropped off at your Camp Site for the next two days.

    Kuussuaq Camp is embedded in breathtaking nature and the area around the camp offers, among many other things, a unique opportunity to experience nature’s pantry. Enjoy a light snack before it is time to roam around to explore the surroundings. Dinner is made on-site, and it allows you to taste the Greenlandic cuisine, which is incredibly versatile and delicious. In the evening, there is entertainment with music, and the local guides tell Greenlandic myths and other stories around the campfire.

    Please note! Toilet facilities are basic and there are no showers.
  • Day 6: Kuussuaq Camp Breakfast will be prepared by the Camp Guide. Today you will explore the camp and all its surroundings. You’ll find many hiking trails that take you through the stunning landscapes and your guides will take you on a hike, which is decided depending on the weather conditions.
  • Day 7: Alluitsup Paa Breakfast in the camp and join the boat ride to Nanortalik. The first stop of the day is a visit to Uunartoq Hot springs. Sit back and relax while large icebergs float by in the fjord next to the springs. After a dip in Uunartoq, the boat ride will go to an abandoned settlement, Alluitsoq. It is a short walk of the village before you start a 7km hike to the next settlement Alluitsup Paa. Walk towards the village and enjoy your well-deserved dinner at the hotel.   • Day 8: Departure Enjoy your last breakfast at the hotel and hop on the boat ride to Narsarsuaq. A transfer will bring you back to the airport. Board your flight to Copenhagen.
