Following the Footsteps of the Vikings

Become one of the Vikings as you explore their rich history. This tour start in Copenhagen, leads you through the gorgeous landscapes of Denmark before heading to the dramatic coast of Norway.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Copenhagen As soon as you have arrived in Copenhagen, you will check in at the hotel. However, before you start tracking the Vikings, you have the rest of the day for leisure.
  • Day 2: Explore Copenhagen Today you take a guided tour of Denmarks’ capital. This tour will also take you to Roskilde, a small town near Copenhagen, where you will visit the Viking Ship Museum and Cathedral. Overnight in Copenhagen.
  • Day 3: Öresund & Malmö We continue over the Öresund Bridge to Malmö in Sweden, where you will get to know the city on a guided tour. Then continue to Foteviken, an archaeological open-air museum that represents a Viking village from 1134. Overnight in Malmo.
  • Day 4: Via Gothenburg towards Oslo On the way to Oslo, you have the opportunity to stop in Sweden’s second largest city, Gothenburg, or visit the Vitlycke Museum, where you can admire the rock paintings of the world heritage in Tanum from the Bronze Age (surcharge). Your trip continues north to the beautiful capital of Norway.
  • Day 5: Sightseeing in Oslo A guided tour of the city awaits you, where you get to know the most famous sights of Oslo together with your guide. The afternoon is at your leisure.
  • Day 6: Heddal – Haugesund Another day of travel – but don’t worry, on the way you can visit the stavechurch in Heddal and will also take a photo stop at the impressive Langfossen waterfall. In the evening you will reach your destination of the day: Haugesund.
  • Day 7: Vikingfarm Avdalsnes It is Viking time again! You drive to Avaldsnes, where you will visit the Viking Farm. This place is known as “the oldest royal seat in Norway” because the kings have resided here for more than 1000 years. Overnight in Haugesund.
  • Day 8: Stavanger & Lysefjord Today you continue to Stavanger, where you will take a boat on the Lysefjord in the afternoon. If time permits, we recommend a stroll through the picturesque old Stavanger, with 173 wooden houses from the 18th century – almost all painted in white.
  • Day 9: Arrival Denmark You will continue towards Kristiansand, where you board the ferry to Denmark. After you get there, take a little detour to Rubjerg Knude, where you can see a lighthouse sinking into a dune. Overnight in Aalborg.
  • Day 10: Journey back to Copenhagen On your journey to Copenhagen we recommend a stop in Jelling, where you can examine rune stones from the Viking Age. Overnight in Copenhagen.
  • Day 11: Departure Depending on your flight times you can enjoy some free time in Copenhagen before boarding your homebound flight.
