Autumn is an underrated season in Northern Norway. The trees change colours, the Northern Lights start to dance in the sky and you’ll be treated to gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, as the Midnight Sun slowly disappears below the horizon. This tour has it all, from an arctic cruise, discovering the city of Tromsø, a hike with a gorgeous view and even a sea kayaking adventure.
Itinerary
- Day 1: Arrival in Tromsø Upon your arrival in Tromsø (flight on own arrangement), your bus will be waiting to pick you up and bring you to your hotel in the city.
- Day 2: Tromsø This day is dedicated to Tromsø, the largest city north of the polar circle and known as the gate to the Arctic Sea. You will learn more about its history on today’s city tour. One of the main attractions to be visited is the striking, modern church known as the Arctic Cathedral. At the end of the tour, you take the cable car “Fjellheisen” to the top of Tromsø’s local mountain Storsteinen. From up there you can enjoy the fantastic view over the city, surrounded by mountains and fjords.
- Day 3: Fjord Cruise On this day, you will explore the beautiful fjords on a cruise with a quiet hybrid-electric boat. Let yourself be carried away by the waves and admire the changing colours of autumn. In between the sea and the land, the boat will take you to places that are unreachable by foot. The rest of the day is up to you. Perhaps you would like to do a beer tasting at the northernmost brewery in the world? Or maybe the evening would be a perfect moment to go on a Northern Light chase adventure?
- Day 4: Somnmarøy After checking out from your hotel in Tromsø, the day starts with a scenic drive up to the island of Sommarøy. In the afternoon, experience Sommarøy and its surroundings on a sea kayak adventure. Moving slow through the clear blue waters allows you to get closer to local wildlife, and you will find hidden gems of sandy white beaches. Sommarøy’s remote location makes it an excellent place to see the northern lights. So if the evening skies are clear, make sure to keep an eye on the sky for a chance to catch the auroras.
- Day 5: Ørnfloya Hike The activity of the day will offer splendid views of Sommarøy. A slow and steady hike will take you to the top of Ørnfløya, where you can enjoy a 360° view of the area and the islands around Sommarøy. Back at the hotel, you could book the sauna or jacuzzi for a relaxing afternoon or explore more of the surroundings.
- Day 6: Departure It is time to say goodbye to the north Norwegian coast. A transfer will take you from Sommarøy to the airport, from where you start your home journey.
