Winter Activities in Nellim

Husky Safari

Huskies will pull your sled through the beautiful winter scenery on the frozen Lake Inari. The dogs’ excitement is infectious and as the animals fall silent on the trail, you can enjoy the serenity of nature around you. All husky safaris run so that one guest is mushing and the other one is sitting in the sleigh. Rates are based on two people sharing sled unless otherwise stated. Positions will be changed halfway.

Ice Fishing Trip with Snowmobile Sleigh

We will have a nice sleigh ride by snowmobile to the best ice-fishing spots and you will learn interesting facts about the life up here in the North. We will teach you how to make ice fishing holes through the ice and then in the end of the day we will see who is the best fisher of the group. If we are lucky enough to catch some fish, we might cook it by open fire. Day includes a tasty lunch by open fire.

Aurora Hunt by Car

During this trip, we will be travelling by car to the famous Paatsjoki Bridge. As the River Paatsjoki never freezes, it offers the most amazing reflections from the open water when the Aurora Borealis appear. This bridge is also very popular location among Aurora photographers. We will spend the evening on the bridge, having some hot drinks to keep us warm.

Reindeer Day with Snowmobile

A guided snowmobile tour that will give you an insight on Sámi culture and way of life in the north. The guide will tell you more about the Sámi culture and the life in the north. You will feed the reindeer – the curious animals might even come up and eat out of your hand! After the amazing experience you will have lunch by the open fire. Comfortably seated on reindeer hides around the fire, you will be served reindeer soup and warm drinks that have been heated over the fire. During the day we will make stops at the Nellim church and the Russian Border.

Meet the Reindeers

Reindeers and reindeer herding is a big part of the history in Northern Finland. Meet the reindeers is a guided tour that will give you an insight on way of life of the reindeer herding. The guide will tell you more about the Sámi culture and the life of a reindeer. You will feed the reindeer – the curious animals might even come up and eat out of your hand.

Cross-Country Skiing

In the old times, cross country skiing used to be the most common method of transportation, and all Finns have this skill in their blood. There is no more silent method to go through frozen and snowy sceneries than cross country skis. Guide will teach you how to use the skis, and once everyone has the hang of it, we will have a nice loop in the surrounding nature. We will be skiing with no hurry, stopping to take pictures and enjoy warm drinks on the way.

Snowmobile Safari

There is no way to visit Northern Finland without trying the snowmobiling even if the visit is only a short one. First you will get familiar with the snowmobile, have full safety instructions and driving lesson with our guide. After everyone feels comfortable, we will head out for a small journey into the nearby surroundings.

Explore Snowmobile

Snowmobiling at Nellim is big fun. There is unlimited wilderness, lots of tracks and beautiful sceneries all around you once you get on a snowmobile. All the snowmobiling activities will start with the instructions and after a lesson and safety instructions, we will head off for an adventure. During the day we will enjoy lunch by the open fire.

Snowshoeing Adventure

On this excursion, we will head to the Nellim forests and hills. During the trek you will learn interesting stories and information about Finnish nature and animals. This trip is perfect for photographers and nature lovers, as snowshoeing is a true eco-activity. Outdoor lunch is served by open fire.

Aurora Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing in the woods at night has its own excitement. We will wander in the Nellim woods and surroundings, until finally reaching the campsite. At the campsite we will enjoy some warm drinks and gaze at the sky hoping for a possible Northern Lights show.
