Winter Activities at the ICEHOTEL

Snowmobile Adventure

Experience northern Sweden´s magnificent winter nature in broad daylight. You drive a snowmobile across the frozen Torne River, hilly landscapes and ice-covered lakes. Your guide takes you to elevated grounds with amazing views, shows tracks in the snow from wild animals and perhaps you spot some arctic wildlife along the way. A traditional Swedish fika is included.

Snowmobile Safari Northern Lights

A clear sky, darkness and some patience are the best ingredients for hunting the northern lights. On this tour, you take a snowmobile out in the wilderness where the northern lights are most visible, away from light pollution. The guide will frequently make short stops to tell you about the northern lights as a phenomenon, how it occurs and for you to watch and have time to take your own pictures. Along the way you stop in a warm wilderness cabin where the guide serves a two-course dinner.

Dogsledding Experience

Experience the dogs’ tremendous desire to run and pull as you travel through the beautiful landscape of northern Lapland. As you sit back and enjoy the ride, the silence is broken only by the runners whooshing through the snow. The tour includes wilderness coffee and cake served by an open fire.


Dogsledding (Ride) with Wilderness Lunch

On this exciting tour you will travel as a passenger in the sled and enjoy an exhilarating dog sled ride in the beautiful boreal landscape that surrounds the Torne River. Your team is driven by an experienced musher who is happy to answer your questions throughout the trip. Halfway into the journey a warming lunch is served at a cosy wilderness camp. The tour ends at Icehotel.

Dogsledding (Drive) with Wilderness Lunch

On this hands-on dog sled tour you will learn to run your own team of huskies and get an interesting insight into the musher’s adventurous life in the last wilderness of Europe. After an introduction to equipment and safety the journey through the wintry landscape begins. Heading out across the snowy plains gives a big feeling of freedom. Halfway through the tour a traditional lunch is served at a cosy wilderness camp. The tour end at Icehotel.

Make your own Ice Sculpture

Take an intense course in ice sculp­ting, a must when you´re at ICEHO­TEL. The class starts with the instructor talking about the crystal-clear ice, which is harvested from Torne River. After that, you get an introduction on how to use the tools, your own ice block and can let the creativity flow and ice take shape. Suitable for everyone from 12 years.

Jukkasjärvi Sauna Ritual

Relaxing and wholesome sauna experience. Pamper your body and soul with a specially composed sauna ritual. The sauna has a long tradition in the northern Sweden and the contrasts between hot and cold is said to have wholesome effects, so take the opportunity and use the sauna like a local and do the ten steps in Jukkasjärvi Sauna Ritual and try everything from the sauna, wash yourself with tar soap, take a plunge into Torne River and have a pleasant moment in the heated out­door bathtubs.

Cross Country Skiing

The tour starts at ICEHOTEL where you are equipped and get a short instruction from the guide of the best techniques for cross-country skiing. Together with the guide, you head out, inhaling clean and crisp air, and ski upstream Torne River. You reach the island Rimisaari where you make coffee over an open fire and grill sausage. After the tour, you can keep the skis for the rest of the day and head out on your own adventure.

Moose Safari on Horseback

You are picked up at ICEHOTEL by bus and taken to Ofelas Icelandic horse farm where you get to meet the animals and prepare your own horse. You ride the Icelandic horse through the moose´s grazing land with an amazing view over Sweden´s highest mountain range Kebnekaise. After the ride, you help unsaddle the horses and you are served a three-course traditional lunch. Min. 12 yrs. Max. weight 90 kgs.

Northern Lights on Horseback

You are picked up at ICEHOTEL by bus and taken to Ofelas Icelandic horse farm where you get to meet the animals and prepare your own horse. You ride Sweden´s highest mountain range Kebnekaise and there is a chance to spot moose and other wildlife along the way. The tranquil ride through the winter eve­ning is magical, like being inside a fairy tale. Back at the farm you will help unsaddle the horses and you are served a dinner made from local produce in a Sámi hut. Min. 12 yrs. Max. weight 90 kgs.

Wildlife and Nature Photography Tour

Photograph wild animals and beau­tiful landscapes during a day outdo­ors. The tour begins at ICEHOTEL where a photo guide picks you up. Together you take a minivan out in the nature and start with familiari­zing yourself with the camera and practice taking pictures. When you feel comfortable with the camera you head out in search for exciting objects to photograph. Nature is fil­led with arctic animals like moose, reindeer and birds and your guide will help you capture them and the wonderful surroundings on camera. The tour ends with a cup of coffee or tea. SD Memory card, minimum 8 GB, is not included.

Northern Lights Photography Tour

places in the wilderness around Juk­kasjärvi – away from the intruding electric lights of human civilization, the conditions for catching the lights are at their best. While we wait for the Aurora to make her appearance in the night sky, your guide takes you through the basics of night time photography and capturing the northern lights on camera. Before concluding the night and heading back to ICEHOTEL, we round off the evening with a hot drink. Memory card, minimum 8 GB, is not included but possible to buy on location.
