Snowy Landscapes & Northern Lights
Get ready for the winter adventure of a lifetime! On this tour you’ll be visiting the Arctic city of Tromsø, and the stunning island Sommarøy. If you’re lucky, you will see the Northern Lights dancing overhead.
Itinerary
- Day 1: Arrival in Tromsø Upon your arrival in Tromsø (flight on own arrangement), your bus will be waiting to pick you up and bring you to your hotel in the city.
- Day 2: Tromsø This day is dedicated to Tromsø, the largest city north of the polar circle and known as the gate to the Arctic Sea. You will learn more about its history on today’s city tour. One of the main attractions to be visited is the striking, modern church known as the Arctic Cathedral. At the end of the tour, you take the cable car “Fjellheisen” to the top of Tromsø’s local mountain Storsteinen. From up there you can enjoy the fantastic view over the city covered in snow, surrounded by mountains and fjords.
- Day 3: Reindeer feeding & Sámi On this day, you will go on a visit to a Sámi camp surrounded by stunning scenery, where you will participate in the daily feeding session of the cutest herd of reindeer. Afterwards you will be welcomed into the Gamme hut to warm up and enjoy a hot traditional meal cooked over the fire. While having lunch, you will immerse yourself into the Sámi culture with stories and the sounds of joiking (traditional songs).
- Day 4: Dog sledding Today you will hop on a sled that is pulled by huskies. Lean back in your sled and enjoy the moment, while the experienced mushers drive you through the snowy mountain landscape. After the ride, you get to meet the Alaskan huskies and their puppies on a tour of the dog yard as well as relax around an open fire with hot drinks and lunch. Afterwards continue with a drive up to the island of Sommarøy, where you will be staying the following nights. Sommarøy’s remote location makes it an excellent place to see the northern lights. So if the evening skies are clear, make sure to keep an eye on the sky for a chance to catch the auroras.
- Day 5: Snowshoe Hike Experience the arctic winter on snowshoes! On today’s tour you will go to one of the neighbouring mountains and hike on snowshoes for a great view of the fjords and archipelagos bathed in the magical winter light. At the end of the tour, you warm yourself up with a hot drink and a Scandinavian specialty: the cinnamon bun. Back at the hotel, you could book the sauna or jacuzzi to warm yourself up after some hours out in the snow. To complete the full experience, you could add a Northern Light chase in the evening. Make sure to take your camera with you so you can keep the memories and show everyone back home.
- Day 6: Departure It is time to say goodbye to the north Norwegian coast. A transfer will take you from Sommarøy to the airport, from where you start your home journey.
