This small group tour will take you to the magic of Northern Norway, start in the arctic metropolis of Tromsø, and then explore the breath-taking Lofoten islands, and their ‘little sister’ the Vesterålen islands. The opportunity to spot whales and discover hidden gems are all a plus on this tour. Your journey continues as you discover the rugged landscapes of Senja as you head back to Tromsø the Arctic capital. Travel in the comfort of a minibus with your own guide and driver.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 On Arrival at Tromsø Airport, follow the sign to the ‘flybus’ (airport bus) – this is a quick, easy, and sustainable way to get to the city centre. Today is at leisure, as you explore the arctic capital on you own. Your hotel for the night is the Clarion Collection Aurora, located in the city centre. Afternoon coffee and pastries are included in the hotel rate as is a light evening buffet. Overnight in Tromsø.
  • Day 2 A hearty breakfast is served at the hotel. In the morning you will meet your English-speaking guide. There is no better way to experience the North, than with a knowledgeable guide and own driver. After a short introduction, your adventure will begin, as you leave Tromsø and head towards Narvik. En route there will be several stops, one which will be at a traditional farm, where you will enjoy some local snacks, a walk around and storytelling. We have included a packed lunch for today’s route. Possible picnic en-route later in the day. Afternoon at leisure. Check in at the Quality hotel Grand Royal in Narvik and overnight. (Dinner on own account)

  • Day 3 Breakfast is served at the hotel. Today your journey continues to the capital of the Lofoten Islands, Svolvær. We have included a lunch stop at a charming restaurant, where you can enjoy a two-course lunch as well as the beautiful surroundings. Arrival in Svolvær and check in at the Thon Hotel Svolvær. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy at leisure, dinner on own account. Overnight.
  • Day 4 Breakfast is served at the hotel. Full day exploring the Lofoten islands – those are mountains and sharp peaks, open water and sheltered bays, beaches and wide, untouched areas. Like a rocky wall they stretch towards the southwest into the ocean. Thanks to the gulfstream the climate is much milder than in other areas of the world which are located on the same degree of latitude. The first people arrived on the Lofoten islands about 6000 years ago, and even all those years ago it was easy to live on fishing and farming (cultivation of grain). The most important trading goods were stockfish, which are still produced and exported today. Dotted around the islands you will see rorbus’ (traditional fisherman houses). Lofoten is a true highlight and a Norwegian gem. Lunch & Dinner at own arrangement and overnight.
  • Day 5 Breakfast at the hotel. From Lofoten you continue exploring the islands, as you head North to Vesterålen, lunch is included en-route. Dinner at own arrangement. Check in at the Thon hotel Andrikken and overnight.

  • Day 6 Breakfast at the hotel. Another highlight of the tour is a little off the beaten track, and away for the main tourist routes. On this day you will discover another hidden gem of Norway, as you follow the Senja route. This is one of the most panoramic roads in the country. Senja is Norway’s second largest island and is located 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Several of the bays are connected by tunnels and offer a different landscape and character. You will pass and be impressed by the rugged and varied landscapes from turquoise waters to mighty mountain walls. Lunch stop en-route and payable on the spot. Arrival in Senja, dinner and overnight.
  • Day 7 Breakfast at the hotel. From Senja you will head back to Tromsø, part of the journey will be by ferry. The fjord ferry continues to the sandy beach Sommarøy on the island of Kvaløya (Whale island) Lunch en-route (payable on the spot). On arrival in Tromsø, we have included the cable car, Fjellheisen. Look out on the North and take in the beauty that Northern Norway offers. Farewell beverage included at the ‘top’ of Tromsø. Bid Farewell to the guide and driver, as you head to the hotel for check in. Accommodation at the Clarion Collection Aurora.
