Reykjavik – Golden Circle –  Borgarfjördur – Thorsmörk – South coast

Stay comfortably in Iceland’s capital, surrounded by culture, shops, restaurants and bars. The city is a perfect starting point for a great variety of excursions. Experience the highlights of Iceland on the Golden Circle, learn about Icelandic sagas in Reykholt and see the waterfalls, glaciers and black sand beaches of the south. A special highlight is the remote glacier valley Thorsmörk in the Icelandic highland.

Day 01:                               Arrival

Arrival in Keflavik. A transfer will await and take you to your hotel in Reykjavik.

Overnight in hotel in Reykjavik.

Day 02:                               Reykjavik

In the morning you will see the most popular attractions of Reykjavik and its surroundings. You will see the president’s residence in Bessastadir and the port Hafnarfjordur. Furthermore, you will see the restaurant Perlan, built on the hot water containers of the city. Afterwards you will go to the house “Höfði”, where the important discussion between the U.S. president Ronald Reagan and the general secretary of the past UDSSR. Michail Gorbatschow in the year 1986 took place. Visit the church “Hallgrimskirkja” and the old city, where the Icelandic parliament and the townhall is located. The afternoon is at your disposal.

Day 03:                               Golden Circle

Today you will drive along the “Golden Circle”, which connects some of the most important attractions of Iceland. The national park “Thingvellir” is the first highlight of the Golden Circle. Here the first parliament was once held and you can walk through the rift caused by the continental drift of the European and the American continental plates. Next is the area of the world-famous Geysir. With regular intervals you can observe how Strokkur shoots up to 20m into the air. Last highlight on this route is the waterfall Gullfoss that takes on a golden shine when the sun is low – thus the name “golden waterfall”.

Day 04:                               Reykjavik & whale watching

How about a shopping-tour through Reykjavik’s worlds-famous shopping street Laugavegur? Here you find everything your heart could wish for and much more! We also recommend a whale watching tour starting from Reykjavik’s old port (optional). Take a boat out into the Faxafloi bay and start looking for the giants!

Day 05:                               Glacier valley Thorsmörk

Today you will have the possibility to take part of a beautiful nature excursion to the glacier valley Thorsmörk, embedded between the glaciers Eyjafjalla-, Tindafjalla- and Myrdalsjökull. With its birch-covered valleys, glacier tongues reaching deep into the valley, the beautiful view of the mountain world and its deep isolation, the Thorsmörk belongs to the big attractions of an Iceland tour. On your way stop at the glacier tongue Falljökull to see how the glacier pushes its ice mass into the lagoon. Before you reach Thorsmörk, you will have an adventurous ride, on which you will pass numerous rivers and streams. Please note: The route can vary depending on the course of the river and the water level.

Day 06:                              Borgarfjördur

During this excursion you will experience the beauty of Iceland’s west coast. Along the picturesque located Hvalfjord, the whale fjord, you will be taken to the biggest hot water spring of the world, Deildatunguhver. Here you can closely observe how gigantic water masses emerge from the ground. Next stop will be Reykholt, where once the Icelandic author Snorri Sturluson lived and wrote down the famous sagas. Visit the Hraunfossar waterfalls, where water masses gush forth impressively through strange lava formations.

Day 07:                               South shore

Travel through the farm landscape of south Iceland and to the black sand beaches, past the thundering waterfalls, powerful volcanos and magnificent glaciers. Take a walk along the black beach of the Reynisfjara with its famous basalt columns and caves. Explore the cliffs, the basalt column piles of Reynisdranger rising out of the ocean. According to Icelandic legends these are trolls, which were transformed into stone with the rising sun. To round off this program there will be one more stop at the waterfall Skogarfoss. Walk up to the 60m high waterfall to observe the cascading water and the rainbows from above.

Day 08:                               Reykjanes & departure

Past the desolate lava landscape of Reykjanes, dotted with many volcanic craters, the circle of your journey closes again at Keflavik airport. Maybe you have time for a healing dip into the Blue Lagoon before departure? (optional)
